Ready to Bring Your Vision to Life? Schedule a Strategy Session

Often, when companies recruit me to create a website, I start asking them questions about their target audience. I often hear, “I want to target everyone.” This leads me to believe these companies don’t have an established plan. To price the services I provide them, I need to understand a company’s identity. I need a plan! I do this by conducting an identity strategy session.

What is an identity strategy session? Gather your team together in a room, over a Google hangout, on a conference call, etc. Block out between sixty and ninety minutes. Together, you’ll formulate the right identity action plan for your business.

During this session, ask the following questions.

  • Where are we going in the next one to ten years?
  • Why are we investing with this company?
  • What’s the company’s story?
  • What kind of a mission are we on?
  • Who was the last period you sold something to?
  • What are your core values?
  • What are our marketing tools?
  • What do you want from your website?
  • What are we selling?

Alongside the questions above, there’s one key factor to focus on during your session: your target audience. While your product could eventually be sold to anyone and everyone, it begins with a specific type of person. Who was the last person you sold something to? Who is your ideal client? Once you identify your ideal client, you’ll know who to target. You are more likely to sell more of your product to people similar to your current clients. Don’t target everyone! Pick a niche. Once you identify your target audience, you can develop a specific identity to attract customers.

Before asking about a logo or building a website, step back and develop your business’s brand identity.
